Alpha-Theta Training: Trauma Processing and Integration
This course is an in-depth learning experience designed to help refine the ILF Neurofeedback process to achieve the best training outcomes for clients.
What You Will Learn
Once clinicians have completed the ILF Introductory Course and gained experience applying the approach in clinical practice, Alpha-Theta training offers a powerful next step in expanding the depth and scope of their neurofeedback work. This course introduces the history, principles, and clinical applications of Alpha-Theta training, with a focus on how this modality can support deeper processing, emotional integration, and meaningful clinical change.
Alpha-Theta training has a long history within the neurofeedback field and is often associated with deep-state training, trauma recovery, creativity, emotional processing, and access to internal resources. Unlike protocols that primarily focus on stabilization and regulation, Alpha-Theta training creates the conditions for clients to enter a deeply relaxed, inwardly focused state in which unconscious or emotionally charged material may become more accessible.
When introduced at the right time and used appropriately, this process can support the integration of difficult experiences, promote shifts in self-awareness, and help clients access a greater sense of calm, resilience, and inner coherence. This course will explore how Alpha-Theta training fits within the broader ILF Neurofeedback model and when it may be clinically appropriate to introduce it.
Participants will learn how to assess client readiness, recognize important precautions, and understand why adequate stabilization is essential before engaging in deeper processing work. Special attention will be given to trauma-related symptoms, dissociation, emotional overwhelm, and other clinical presentations where careful timing and clinical judgment are especially important.
Through lecture, discussion, demonstration, and hands-on practice, participants will become familiar with the practical use of Alpha-Theta training and learn how to integrate it safely and effectively into individualized treatment planning.
